When things were winding down for Mardi Gras in Mobile last night, there was a big police presence. About all I will say about this picture is be careful what you say around a large group of cops.

Chief Red Cloud in Mobile

Imagine my surprise last night when Chief Red Cloud, the namesake of my hometown in Nebraska, made an appearance on the front of a float in the Infant Mystics parade last night in downtown Mobile. I probably wouldn’t have known it was supposed to be him if it weren’t for the fact that each float is preceded by a sign with the name of the float. In this case, the sign read, “Red Cloud Chief of the Sioux.”

Modern day king and queen

King Elexis I, aka C’aracher “C.J.” Small, and queen Tasha Montae Lang and others are pat of the tableau vivant at the Coronation for the Mobile Area Mardi Gras Association Saturday night, Feb. 3, 2008, at the Mobile Civic Center.

Brimstone and Beads

I was taking photos of this flier in the street, without the beads, and somebody walked along and dropped some right next to it. I don’t know if it was an accident or not, but it sure made the photo more interesting and offered a nice contrast.

Members of the U.S. Navy, from the USS Gettysburg, were in Mobile to celebrate Mardi Gras for a few days.
