fleet blessing

Blessing of the Fleet was last weekend. Jeff and I had never seen it before, though I had heard about it many times in the past. We were there all day because it seemed important to the story — symbolically inaugurating the shrimp season, celebrating what residents hope will be a fruitful harvest. But after a few trying years of shrimping, I’m told fewer and fewer boats show up.

I posted a lot of photos from the event in mostly chronological order. It gave us the opportunity not only to shoot a culturally significant event in the town, but also to photograph some of the interesting scenery along the Bayou that we hadn’t gotten a chance to see yet…so there are a lot of pictures. We aren’t at a point in the story at which we have begun to do much of the editing that we will eventually need to do. The story is still evolving.
