Allen Aven, graduate student in marine sciences at the Dauphin Island Sea Lab, makes a call back to the lab to get an update on the location of Bama before taking a pontoon boat to track down the 1,000-pound manatee in Scipio Creek off the Apalachicola River in Florida, Friday, June 18, 2010, in order to observe her behavior. Aven is closely monitoring Bama, and Bumpy, two manatees tagged by the Dauphin Island Sea Lab, for changes in their behavior since the oil spill. Aven’s daughter, Kayla Aven, 13, of Memphis, Tenn., is also pictured at left.
