Despite the constant threat of storms and the constant movement of sand, the west end of Dauphin Island, Ala., has some significant homes. For years, hurricanes and storms have dramatically moved the barrier island’s sand, burying roads and exposing homes on the island’s thin west side to lapping waves of the gulf.
