Mick was one of the first people we met when we moved to Mobile more than three years ago. We live around the corner from his family’s business, Universal Supply, a well-known and well-loved hardware and plumbing mecca in Midtown. We have only one bathroom in our house, and thus one toilet, and when we removed our home’s original 1905 toilet to replace it with an updated dual-flush low-flow unit, it was a pretty big problem when discovered that we would need to lay a single floor tile before we could install the new one. Needless to say, we didn’t have that floor tile, and after trips to big-box hardware stores and local flooring centers, we found we couldn’t purchase an individual floor tile. Of course, Universal Supply doesn’t sell ceramic tiles, but it’s a great place — locally-owned, friendly, and helpful. And when we told Mike, Mick’s father, that we didn’t know what we were going to do, and we didn’t know how long we could realistically go without a toilet, he gave us one. It was an extra from a recent project they had done in their own home.
Mick works with Mike, and we never walk in the store without a hello from either of them, or from any of the other employees.
Naturally, we were honored to photograph Mick & Amber’s big day. They are so happy together, and we are happy for them.
